The piece is a flow of animated images created with shadow puppets on
overhead projectors, designed by award-winning puppeteer, Lisa Sturz with Red Herring Puppets. The visuals are accompanied by a poetic text written by Lisa and music by well-known frame drummer, Layne Redmond. BEESTING will be adapted for film by Diane Tower-Jones of Legacy films.

BEESTING was conceived while Lisa was undergoing chemotherapy treatment for
an aggressive breast cancer. While inside an MRI machine, she imagined the
loud mechanical hum to be the peaceful buzzing of the bees. Her personal
struggle becomes a metaphor for society and the environmental contamination
of our planet. BEESTING emphasizes the imbalance of the feminine in Western
culture and how it is manifesting in the disease of our breasts and the
pollution of Mother Earth.  The visuals explore the similarities between the
shape of the breast and the traditional hive. The text examines the
mutating cells of the tumor, the sick cells within the hives, and the use of
cell phone frequencies in the environment.

EVERYONE IS AT RISK of developing cancer.  This is a timely piece, which
addresses the fears, hopes, intensity, warnings, and blessings that cancer
reveals.

Your tax-deductible donation to Asheville Puppetry Alliance will go directly
to fund the development of BEESTING. This is the first component of a full
length documentary based on the writings and dreams Lisa has been posting on

Caring Bridgeto chronicle her cancer experience.  The documentary will weave interviews and visual poetry with puppetry that illustrates her dreams and creatively explores her emotional journey.

All contributions, large and small, will be acknowledged in the credits of
the final film.
